You might not be where you wish you are, but are you on the right track?

A lot of my clients (and myself at times!) get caught up in the rather depressing idea-

"I'm not where I should be!!" This can create a whole host of issues such as feelings of unworthiness, poor self esteem, lack of motivation and a tirade of other thoughts to fuse with such as thinking you are not enough. A really helpful tip is to acknowledge that's what you're thinking, but is this thought helpful? Will it actually help one to shift from one space to the next? Or might it prove to keep one stuck and without hope? It also serves to take the focus from what you're doing that is working/right/positively impacting you and to instead magnify yourself in a deficit frame which will only lead to feelings of sadness and frustration. Instead lets respond with this: 'Yes I'm not where I would ideally like to be, but am I on the right track?' For most of us on the journey of recovery, healing and personal development, we will be doing our best in that domain, in terms of living by our values, achieving small realistic goals, building self awareness etc. SO! Next time your brain pops that 'not enough' vibe your way, have a good think and respond back to it with examples of things you are doing right, things to be proud of, things that show you, you are moving through life in the right direction, one day at a time.
